NKC Electronics is discontinuing the Freeduino Serial V2.0 KIT and a new pre-assembled board will be offered. The availability is planned for July/August 2012 timeframe.

The pre-assembled board will include either the ATmega328P SMD or through hole... still not decided wich one is the right one that the new board must have...

The new Freeduino serial pre-assembled board will be full SMD board (ICL3232, ATmega328P, resistors, etc)... except for the DB9 connector and the headers. I will continue posting the advance of the project, design files, etc.

The replacement board probably does not make any sense, after the announcement of the Arduino Leonardo. It is better just to attach an RS232 shield on top of the Leonardo board to get similar features and price.

I would like to hear your opinions on this.

Thanks

:geek: Have looked at RS232 shield - I do not like it :!:
if you are going to make a new Freeduino serial pre-assembled board will be full SMD board with exception to the DB9 connector, headers, ATmega328P, and the MAX232.

Thank You

The assembly guide with schematics and list of parts is here: http://mcukits.com/2009/03/12/assembling-the-freeduino-serial-v20-board-max232/
