hello everyone i am completely new to the whole arduino/freeduino world, but here goes, does an arduino device have the capabilities to run and operate 3 stepper motors connected to a hobby size home built cnc machine, and if it does which device would be the best one to use? (yes i do realize that i will have to write the programming to for the device)

with that out of the way, my suggestion would be to create a forum for new users, like myself, to go when they have no idea where to start.

my thanks to all in advance for any help that you can give me with my question.

@ fyrftrj

Arduino boards and its derivatives come in different shapes and capabilities. If the basic Arduino / Freeduino board is not capable of handling the number of devices you need, you have the option to go with more advanced boards, like the Arduino MEGA 2560, the chipKIT (based on the microchip 32-bit architecture) or Seeeduino MEGA.

You will also need to add some shields or peripherals to your configuration, like motor drivers that can handle stepper motors.

My recommendation for you is to visit the Arduino hardware page and check the specifications for the different boards that are available.
